I don’t think we’ll see that with Halo Infinite.

The big annual story / campaign update drops with the new raid and then throughout that year there are seasonal themed story bits here and there. Destiny sort of can pull that off with how they’ve shaped their story at this point. I’d much prefer 343 to take their time with flushing out the campaign expansions. For Halo’s story and campaign levels, especially with this new style of campaign they are doing now. I think what you were trying to get at in your original post though was the small story updates season to season instead of the big annual update, yeah I would much prefer the campaign to be an Annual or Bi Annual update as apposed to seasonal (3-5 months). So I don’t really see too many parallels between the two games there. The fundamentals at what makes the core gameplay and new content progress is different. But for already established players D2 is probably in the best state it has been in for a long time.īut in the end D2 is a way different animal of a game with it being sort of a FPS MMO / Multiplayer Looter Shooter. And yeah new light experience is pretty shit from what I’ve heard. Beyond Light has been pretty great for the past year, and 2021 was an excellent year for updates to the core gameplay and sandbox. Not sure when you stopped playing, sounds like a while ago since you are talking about vaulting still. Can’t tell you how much of a difference it is in Crucible now. They even fixed Trials and got rid of the majority of hackers when they implemented BattleEye2 anti cheat to the game. Bungie did say that some of the old destinations that were vaulted were going to get the BLAM 3.0 treatment that Forsaken, Shadowkeep, Beyond Light have got.ĭ2 though has been in a pretty solid state since Beyond Light came out with regards to content and new weapon metas etc.

Plus there were a lot of destinations and things from Vanilla D2 that players no longer played at all. The game previously was getting too un-manageable on a technical level.

There was a lot of Spaghetti code that needed cleaning up for them to progress forward with the game and adding in new content / locations / weapon rolls etc. Don't time-gate content.Ī lot of that content being vaulted was because the game was being “rebuilt” from an engine side of things. 343, if you're reading this, please don't forget the people that replay games years later, the people without regular access to internet, the people who will play Infinite for the first time years from now. I have no reason to think this is the model 343 will go for besides the fact that so many AAA titles follow this seasonal content model. It also creates confusion for new players that get dropped into an expansion with no linear story progression just a million missions to pick from. In Destiny it's disappointing that I can't go back and play early campaigns or access parts of the story that were in a previous season. Is this the future for Halo Infinite? I really hope not. A regularly changing meta & sunset content means parts of the game I paid for are now obsolete or outright inaccessible ("vaulted"). The gameplay loop which requires daily, weekly, and seasonal sweat just wasn't sustainable for an adult with a 9-5 and other hobbies. For me, Destiny stopped being a "pick up and play" game, which is how I've always approached Halo games. I stopped playing Destiny because maintaining a competitive character (viable in PvP and PvM content) required significant time investments every season.
